MILITARY SURPLUS PROCESSING SOLUTIONS
The United States Military follows strict regulations on how it handles military surplus disposal equipment. Depending on the level of destruction needed, the type(s) of material to be processed, and the volume of throughput required, Komar will help you to design the perfect system for your job.

Company and Site: Blue Grass Army Depot, Richmond, KY
Equipment: Dual Shaft Electromechanical Shear Shredder
Waste Stream: Low volume, medium-density military surplus
Equipment: Dual Shaft Electromechanical Shear Shredder
Waste Stream: Low volume, medium-density military surplus
Blue Grass Army Depot is a U.S. Army storage facility and military surplus processing center. Blue Grass shreds a variety of military surplus with a Komar 36 series electromechanical dual shaft shear shredder to render the surplus unusable.
Company and Site: Intertrade, Liberia
Equipment: Dual Shaft Electromechanical Shear Shredder
Waste Stream: Medium volume, medium-density military surplus

Waste Stream: Medium volume, medium-density military surplus
Intertrade provides the wholesale distribution of equipment and supplies for personal service establishments. Intertrade supplied a Komar 40 series electromechanical dual shaft shear shredder for a United Nations’ project in Liberia. This unit processes a variety of military surplus into strip-cut pieces to render it unusable. It has been working effectively in the field since 2012.
Company and Site: Pine Bluff Arsenal, Jefferson County, AR
Equipment: Dual Shaft Hydraulic Shear Shredder
Waste Stream: High volume, a wide range of military surplus, low-high density
Equipment: Dual Shaft Hydraulic Shear Shredder
Waste Stream: High volume, a wide range of military surplus, low-high density
Pine Bluff Arsenal provides America’s Joint Warfighter with specialized Ammunitions, Smoke, Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) Defense capabilities through expert manufacturing, storage, and logistics. Pine Bluff utilizes a 44 series hydraulic dual shaft shear shredder to process a large volume and material variety. The material is loaded onto an in-feed conveyor, processed by the shredder, and carried out by a through-the-wall outfeed conveyor to the Komar Auger-Pak™. The strip-cut pieces that the shredder produces render the material unusable.
Company and Site: Nellis Air Force Base, Las Vegas Valley, NV
Equipment: Quad Shaft Electromechanical Shear Shredder
Waste Stream: Medium volume, high-density military surplus
Equipment: Quad Shaft Electromechanical Shear Shredder
Waste Stream: Medium volume, high-density military surplus
Nellis Air Force Base is a U.S. Air Force installation in southern Nevada with military schools and more squadrons than any other USAF base. Nellis utilizes a 30 series quad shaft electromechanical shear shredder with a 1.5″ screen to process military scrap. This setup achieves a very small uniform piece size which protects intellectual property.
Company and Site: Hill AFB, UT
Equipment: Quad Shaft Hydrostatic Shear Shredder
Waste Stream: Medium volume, high-density military surplus
Equipment: Quad Shaft Hydrostatic Shear Shredder
Waste Stream: Medium volume, high-density military surplus
Hill Air Force Base is The U.S. Air Force’s second-largest base by population and geographical size and is home to many operational and support missions. Hill wanted a portable, high-powered system to drive to different campus locations and shred military surplus for destruction. This truck-mounted unit features a 30 series quad shaft hydrostatic shear shredder with an outfeed conveyor and collection container. It shreds the military surplus into a uniform piece size, which protects intellectual property.
Company and Site: Kalman and Company, Albany, GA
Equipment: Dual Shaft Hydrostatic Shear Shredder, Auger-Pak® EM-15G
Waste Stream: Medium volume, medium density, military surplus
Equipment: Dual Shaft Hydrostatic Shear Shredder, Auger-Pak® EM-15G
Waste Stream: Medium volume, medium density, military surplus
Kalman and Company provide program analysis, logistics, business, and process improvement support services for federal and commercial clients, including the armed forces. Kalman processes a high-volume of dense military surpluses, such as helmets and SAPI plates. It is vital that the surplus is rendered unrecognizable and that it be compacted for efficient transportation. This system achieves this goal by first conveying the material to the processing chamber of the shredder. As the material is shredded, it falls into the auger compactor and is compacted directly into the receiving container. A small uniform piece size is achieved, which protects intellectual property and greatly reduces transportation costs.

Kalman and Company added a second system with a larger 56 series hydrostatic dual shaft shear shredder. This system also conveys the material to the shredder’s processing chamber and compacts it directly into the receiving container. A HEPA filter was included for processing specific types of surplus. A small uniform piece size is achieved, which protects intellectual property and greatly reduces transportation costs.
