Primary and secondary tire processing
Komar tire shredders offer primary and secondary processing of
both passenger car tires and truck tires from low volume (10 tires/hr.) to high
volume (2500 tires/hr.). The two-shaft shear shredder creates a strip product
which can be landfilled or re-circulated for further processing to create tire
derived fuel (TDF). The Tiger 4 Quad shredder can be utilized as a secondary
tire shredder for processing strips into chips or can be used as a primary, low
volume, stand alone, single step processing unit.
Process and sell old tires
Using Komar tire shredders, you can safely and efficiently
process tires into profitable outputs such as:
- High Energy Fuel
- Playground Cover

Steps for starting a tire shredding business
1. Find a market for your output
With some planning, you will find that the fees charged for
accepting tires barely cover your operating costs. A tire shredding business is
sustainable only if you find a profitable output, such as high efficiency fuels,
mulch etc. You may want to do some research into various outputs that can be
sold in your area - http://www.rma.org/ is a good place to start.
2. Find a good hauling location
Finding a buyer is very dependent on how accessible / close you
are. It is very important to choose a location that will be in range of multiple
potential buyers, as hauling costs will limit their interest to a defined
radius.
3. Make a budget
Be honest with your projected revenues and all other operating
costs when you put together a budget. This will allow you to see if you can
afford the right product for your needs before making a significant financial
committment. You will have to spend at least $100,000 for a basic tire shredder
with prices going up significantly for the more processed outputs. Depending on
what equipment you currently have, you will most likely need to purchase
conveyors, dumpers or other materials handling equipment.
